PEKING DUK DJ SET
Good vibes and great music - whip it all together and you've got Peking Duk.
Confirmed legends Adam Hyde and Reuben Styles are Australia's favourite duo. They're the guys wearing matching tracksuits on the red carpet, the showmen going viral with their onstage antics, the everyday heroes bringing fans backstage, and the hit makers responsible for your favourite songs.
The Duk started their ascent in 2014 with 'High', the ARIA-winning, four-time platinum single that was the #1 most played track on Triple J that year and #2 in the Hottest 100. They followed that up with two more huge hits - the triple platinum 'Take Me Over', and the gold-certified 'Say My Name' - before returning in late 2016 with 'Stranger', a collaboration with Swedish cool girl Elliphant that's already racked up 30 million streams on Spotify and won the Apple Music Song of the Year award at the 2017 ARIAs. How's that for a track record?
And no one knows how to put on a party quite like the boys: their live show will leave you sweat-soaked and picking bits of confetti out of your hair for days.
The best bit? With a debut album around the corner, Peking Duk's domination isn't done yet.
The youngest ever performer on Triple J's Like a Version, the youngest solo artist to win an ARIA Award, and the youngest male artist to sell out two shows at the Sydney Opera House in minutes, vocal prodigy Ruel seems to be breaking records for fun.
A transcendent new star on an unstoppable trajectory, the London-born, Sydney-based songwriter found himself on the ARIA podium as he took out the 2018 Breakthrough Artist gong for his soul-soaked banger 'Dazed and Confused', which landed in in Triple J's Hottest 100 alongside 'Younger'. Both tunes, taken from his ubiquitous debut EP 'Ready', were released amongst a tidal wave of hype which began to swell almost immediately around this young singer-songwriter as his extraordinary soul-tinged voice began to filter out and received praise from Sir Elton John, Khalid, GoldLink and Gallant.
With these five-star endorsements, it was inevitable that fan bases would start mobilising worldwide and, with the help of ARIA Platinum certified single Younger and heartbreaker 'Not Thinkin' Bout You', shows have been selling out all over the globe with the 16-year-old wunderkind now sitting on a monsterous 200+ million global streams.
Ruel's latest single Painkiller has made waves gathering over five million streams and four million video views in the first month alone, proving that the young prodigy is continuing to grow at an alarming rate.
G Flip is the real thing: unfiltered, driven and bursting out of her bedroom with ideas to burn.
Melbourne singer, producer and multi-instrumentalist G Flip (born Georgia Flipo), fell in love with the drums as a kid and travelled the US as a touring drummer in her early 20s. Never one to sit still, Georgia then locked herself in her bedroom studio for all of 2017 and taught herself how to write and produce her own songs.
While incubating her new project, Georgia created a round LCD screen for the front of her hand-made kick drum which can display any imagery, video or content that Georgia can dream up. G Flip’s animated “talking drum kit” was named Je Ro Mo, after Jenny Rose Morrish, her late drum teacher.
Her self-produced debut single ‘About You’ is an addictive, bittersweet shard of shimmering pop, inspired by her “hectic, toxic, cinematic” on-off relationship. It builds from a dreamy murmur into a cathartic tumble of layered synths and syllables, with her clean, spacious drumming taking front and centre. It was the very first track Georgia pieced together, recorded in a day in her bedroom studio into “a crappy mic from Cash Converters”.
Hailing from the beachside town of Wollongong, NSW, 18-year-old musician Stevan is a young musical powerhouse on the rise. The multi-talented producer, singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist combines his many musical skills to create woozy, dreamlike pop songs that defy genres and classification.
While still in high school, the self-taught multi-instrumentalist made a name for himself releasing demos on Soundcloud which quickly garnered him a loyal underground fan base and attracted industry attention.
Before even graduating high school Stevan signed to the US label Honeymoon Records and became Astral People’s latest management signing, sitting alongside fellow Australian artists like Cosmo’s Midnight, Winston Surfshirt and Milan Ring.
Stevan draws inspiration from classic musicians such as Bob Marley, Al Green and Stevie Wonder. He fuses this with his love for contemporary musicians Childish Gambino, Frank Ocean and Kendrick Lamar and the collision of the classic and contemporary is evident in his sound today, which infuses classic R&B song writing with modern production.
With an arsenal of musical talent and a devoted fan base, Stevan is on his way to big things.
